Why we exist

Why we exist

Like most social movements For Brian CIC was conceived through frustration.

People living with dementia can live well, and many life skills and talents are unaffected, whilst other, often hidden, disabilities might present serious challenges.  There is a need to co produce age appropriate activities that enable people living with dementia to participate in their communities and form meaningful support networks.

Innovation & Sustainability

There are many innovative interventions bringing the therapeutic power of dance, music, art, and cycling to people living with dementia, however these interventions may not be funded on an ongoing basis, are not available everywhere, and there are frequently considerable barriers in accessing them. Enjoying an activity, making relationships, committing to a regular time is an investment. Insecure funding passes stress onto those who have come to depend on those activities. A key principle of For Brian CIC is to focus on the individual, problem solving the impact of interruptions in funding, postcode lotteries and personal preference.

Appropriate Services

People living with dementia want to pursue their interests, feel useful, and feel a sense of belonging in their community, just like anyone else.

Accessible Activity

Enjoying an activity and getting there are two separate issues. Support workers and community networks can help people living with dementia to access activities.

Inclusive Activity

Activities for brain health that are designed with the needs of people living with dementia in mind are inclusive of everyone. We all need to work harder to promote equality in our communities, where people with specific needs are not excluded.
